The Construction Skills Certificate Scheme (CSCS) was set up by the construction industry to improve quality and reduce accidents. The scheme is administered by the construction industry body Construction Skills and ensures that everyone working in construction has a minimum level of health and safety awareness.
To simply get a CSCS certificate (valid for 2 years) you’ll need to pass the CSCS Health & Safety test. To get a CSCS card within your skillset, you’ll need to also send a copy of your qualifications and apply online. The cards cover hundreds of occupations so whatever you do in construction there will be a card for you. For skilled or professional cards you will need proof of competence such as an NVQ or City & Guilds equivalent. Cards typically take 3 to 5 working days to arrive.
The type of card being applied for will determine the level of test that needs to be taken. You can find out which CSCS card to apply for and which CSCS test you need to pass using the CSCS Card Finder or give us a call and we can point you in the right direction.
The test is computer based, multiple-choice and is a maximum of 45 minutes. Test results are available immediately and a paper certificate is issued for a pass result.
The test is only available in English, but you can choose to take your test with the help of a voiceover audio recording. To see which languages are available please click here: CSCS Test in Other Languages.
We strongly recommend you study for the test using the official CSCS Revision app which costs £6.99.
To apply for a card you will need to call CSCS directly on 0344 994 4777. Make sure you have your credit / debit card with you to pay the fee of £36. The card will usually be dispatched the next working day.
